Website Build for Towards Belonging

Towards Belonging Website Build

Towards Belonging was founded by a disabled engineering professional and educator with a mission to drive inclusivity and accessibility in engineering. My role was to design and build a WordPress website that would establish the organisation’s online presence – a platform accessible and welcoming to both the disabled community and engineering professionals.

The site needed to showcase the organisation’s services and achievements, while also featuring an online form through which disabled individuals could share their experiences and needs, helping Towards Belonging provide meaningful feedback to engineers working toward inclusive design.

The brief was clear – create a site that’s accessible, intentional, and deeply respectful of the content and the people it’s for. It had to speak to the disabled community as well as educators, students, and advocates alike, while reflecting the founder’s personal experience as a disabled professional in STEM.

Goals

  • Accessibility-First Design – Built in from the start, not retrofitted
  • 🎓 Clear Communication – Speak effectively to disabled users, students, educators, and engineers
  • 📚 Support Sharing – Enable forms and future publishing of research, talks, and resources
