The free listing that wins local customers
When someone searches for “plumber near me” or “dentist in Altrincham”, Google shows a map with three businesses before any websites. Those businesses come from Google Business Profile.
A half-finished profile, the wrong category or a missing service area can keep you out of that map, even if you’re the best in town. Getting the basics right is one of the quickest wins in local SEO.
Everything your profile needs to perform
Your Google Business Profile set-up includes
- A new profile created, or your existing one claimed
- Help with Google’s verification step
- Primary and secondary categories chosen
- Services and business description written
- Service areas set, with your address hidden if needed
- Opening hours, phone number and website link
- Logo, cover and starter photos added
- Name, address and phone checked against your website
Your profile works best with the rest of your local SEO
Google looks at more than your profile when it decides who to show. Consistent business details across other directories, a website that backs up what your profile says, and a steady flow of reviews all help.
If you want help with the whole picture, my local SEO plans include ongoing profile management alongside citations, website improvements and plain-English reports.

What is a Google Business Profile?+
It’s the free business listing that appears on Google Maps and in local search results, showing your services, opening hours, photos and reviews. It used to be called Google My Business.
How much does Google Business Profile set-up cost?+
My set-up costs £125. Google doesn’t charge for the profile itself.
Can I hide my home address?+
Yes. If you visit customers or work from home, I set your profile up as a service-area business, so your address isn’t shown.
How long does verification take?+
It depends on the method Google chooses for your business. Some are done the same day, others take longer. I’ll guide you through whichever one you get.
Will a profile get me to the top of Google Maps?+
A complete, accurate profile gives you the best chance, but rankings also depend on how close searchers are, your reviews and your competition. I won’t promise a position, but I will make sure your profile isn’t holding you back.
I already have a profile. Can you improve it?+
Yes. I’ll check what’s there, fix any problems and fill in anything that’s missing.
